Saturday, Glenna and I left Glenna’s about 900am, traveling 60 miles to Dade City for Thanksgiving Dinner with Gweldon, his wife and about 20 people from the Dade City church. It was a fun time of food and fellowship.

We left Dade City about 230pm, first lowering the top on Ron’s Chrysler convertible, putting on our sunglasses, hat and babushka. We drove by what we thought was a horse show, but turned out to be a go cart track. We were there from 240pm to 1030pm. About 730pm, it was getting cool, so I got my coat and her sweater to warm up. We put our arms around each other in a warm gentle embrace for the first time.

We were drinking hot chocolate and I made the statement, “Imagine, it has been only 24 hours since we met.” Glenna said, ”Let’s toast to that”, so we clanked our plastic cups in the cold night air.

By the time we got back to Largo, eating places were closed, so we went back to Glenna's house for soup and sandwich. I left about 1230am for Ron’s. Sunday, we met in church for the 1030am service, and went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner with Ron and Dot. I had my first and only fight with Glenna that afternoon. I said I would pay for dinner, she said she would…. she won.

After changing from our church clothes, the four of us went to Ron’s time-share on the Gulf of Mexico. The sun was setting as we walked the beach for about half an hour. We were back to church for Sunday night.

Monday, I went by myself to Dade City and stayed overnight to help Gweldon tear out one window and frame in a new one. I called Glenna Monday and Tuesday. I drove back to Largo Tuesday arriving about 630pm to spend a short time with Glenna. Wednesday, Glenna worked until 500pm, so I was at her house about 530pm. Her son, Jeff, was here from Ft. Lauderdale. Glenna and I went to the grocery store to buy things for Thanksgiving dinner and ingredients for homemade pizza. Glenna rolled out the crust and I cut up the vegetables, put on some mozzarella cheese and popped it in the oven. Jeff said it was better than Charlies and Millies (a 35 year old establishment-which is the best pizza in town). It was great fun.

Thursday was Thanksgiving day and we gave THANKS. I was here about 900am to help in any way I could. Glenna’s kids starting arriving shortly after that.

I got to meet all 5 of her kids and all 7 grandkids. Ron and Dot arrived about 130pm for dinner and stayed until about 830pm. Ron laughingly said it was safe for them to leave as Glenna’s daughter had just arrived to chaperone. Glenna entertained a total of 23 people today. I left about 1000pm.

Friday, I went to Glenna’s about 900am for oatmeal, toast & coffee. Although Glenna had Friday off, she elected to go to work so she could open the mail, post the incoming checks, and make the bank deposit. I went with her and helped open the mail. She has worked the last four years as the finance and personnel director for a small company. She has two weeks each year for vacation and only took 4 days vacation last year. Prior to that, she worked 13 years for a department store as a fashion sales person. She also worked for AARP Pharmacy about 4 years. I had worked 38 years as a station agent for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in Illinois . The rest of the day was spent with son Jeff. He was up until 11pm planting impatiens for his mommy. Glenna had crashed on the couch about 10pm. I left about 11pm.

Together, we have logged 82 years of married life (each to one mate). And what should I say more? Thank you Ron and Dot for being motherly and fatherly to both of us. Glenna and I have shared wonderful times of singing, laughing, crying, praying, sharing pasts, future, promises and hugging. Just being with someone who is enjoying life for the first time in a long time and knowing that I am the reason is a wonderful feeling. Also, she lights up my life and makes me very happy. We are making Christ the center of our lives and have seen His footprints all along the way. On our wedding day, Dec 11, 1999, we served cake and punch, and threw the garter and bouquet. At 600pm, Glenna had a company Christmas party to attend and we both went. We received cheers as we entered and were the only couple that had the privilege of slow dancing. Her boss had just purchased a Karaoke machine for the evening, which was great fun.

We spent three nights in this condo on the Gulf of Mexico and enjoyed the pool and hot tub. We know God had His hand in this. How else would a man from Rockford, Illinois meet a woman from Largo, Florida, fall in love and marry in just 22 days. |
